The Olympics are officially over, and I am lost late at night.

The Olympics this year were the best that I can remember. The idea behind what the Olympics represent is beautiful. The world coming together over sporting competitions. The athletes who train for years for their one moment on the big stage. The cinderella stories, the heartbreak, the unbelievable. I shed a tear while watching the closing ceremonies. The faces of the athletes told their story.

The Highlights: Beach volleyball, both the men and women’s teams were good enough to bring home gold. Men’s indoor volleyball – Usain Bolt, the man is amazing – Gymnastics, Shawn and Nastia take on the Chinese, and the Chinese men were incredible – The “redeem” team – I enjoyed the Gold medal game, watching Kobe and Lebron on that stage was cool. I actually have some respect for the guys now. – And of course watching Mr. Phelps dominate the pool.

Bolt’s runs, Phelps extra stoke to beat Cavic, the redeem team finishing off Spain, the women’s 4×400 relay and the last 100 meters to catch the Russians, Lezak’s last 30 meters to catch the French, shawn’s balance beam.

What a great event.

I don’t know if you experienced this like I did, but it SUCKED!!! At this point I would like to thank KTAR 620, 910am radio, ESPN, and NBC. All 4 of those stations reported the new world record in the 200 meter race by Usain Bolt before NBC aired the race. Thank you for ruining one of the best moments of the Olympics. I did watch the race, but with no surprise. I didn’t get to enjoy Bolt making history and breaking one of the records that was thought to be near impossible to break. Again, I would like to thank the internet for ruining the surprise of Shawn Johnson’s gold medal last night. There was NO suspense when Nastia came up to do her performance.

Is it so hard to say something as simple as “spoiler alert” or ” turn down if you plan on watching the olympics tonight” is that so hard?

high five

high five

Is it just me, or did the Chinese give awkward high fives?

I am not one to complain too much about judges. I am not going to blame the US womens gymnastics silver medal on the judges. But I am curious if I am the only one that thinks the scores are a little higher for the Chinese than the Americans. I understand the whole starting time, but it still seems that their scores seem to be on the high side and the Americans seem to be on the low side. What do you think?

This is the only time you will ever see anything on gymnastics on my site. (during the olympics)

Yet another “conflict” begins because of oil. The Russians are busy throwing around their weight in a much weaker Georgia. Russia is in the process of invading the pro-western nation of Georgia. Well, why are they? OIL, OIL, OIL!!! Russia wants to have control of as much oil as possible, even if it requires war. Bush and Gordon Brown (UK Prime Minister) have both called for Russia to pull their troops out and agree to a cease-fire. We may be at the beginning of a nasty war-filled future. I am not saying that it is going to happen, but I will say that I don’t trust Russia. ( I hope I don’t get poisoned for saying that)

This is just another example of our need to find alternative-fuel resources. We must begin to get away from oil. We are already in 1 war over oil ( we are, you can’t deny it), and now there is another one on the verge.

What are your thoughts? Should we just keep chuggin along with the oil? Does Russia scare you?

Are you watching the Olympics? I thought about doing the whole boycott thing. I know many people are not watching because of the Chines and their human rights offenses. While I agree that the way the Chinese use their power is repulsive, I am not sure that boycotting the Olympics is the answer. After all, aren’t the Olympics kind of an international sign of unity and cohesion? So if you are one that has decided to boycott then more power to you. I on

the other hand have decided to enjoy the ultimate display of competition and sportsmanship.

I can honestly say that I have already enjoyed the 2008 Olympics so much. Watching Phelps take gold in the 400 IM, the Men’s “redeem” team take to the court, and who could forget the women’s saber fencing. OK, maybe not so much on the fencing, but it was all good none-the-less.  I am looking forward to more volleyball and cycling, and more basketball.

There are not very many events that get the attention on the world stage as the Olympics (if any). There is something that is magical about 2 women from Russia and Georgia hugging after their pistol shooting. Seeing how the 2 countries have very recently began a “conflict”, it may only be the Olympics that causes 2 athletes to come together. That is what he Olympics are all about.
