Remembering

March 12, 2009

What are some things that you remember that are odd, random, or useless?

For me… I remember that in 1987 Andre Dawson won the MVP for the last place Chicago Cubs (the guy to ever win an MVP on a last place team). Dawson hit .289 with 49HR and 137 RBI’s. What???? Who remembers that crap? OR… I remember eating a salad on a plane in 1983, I was 3 at the time, and I remember thinking that I was a good boy for finishing my food.

Jesus asks us to remember him through the sacrament of communion. He asks us to remember him through the breaking of bread and the sharing of the cup.

This is sometimes really hard for me. Not the actual participating in communion, but in the constant remembering of what Jesus did for me and all of mankind. If this were to be something that was constantly on my mind then I am sure that my choices, decisions, and way of living would be different.  I have a feeling that Jesus knew that we would need a constant reminding of what He came to do.

So today, tomorrow, and the rest of the week I am going to make a very concious effort to remember specifically what took place 2,ooo years ago. What about you?

I remember really wanting to swim across a lake in Northern Arizona and the controversy that ensued from my swim. I still can’t believe how ridiculous those people were. This doesn’t have anything to do with your post but I still remember it.

I think this constant reminder of Christ’s sacrifice goes hand in hand with the plea to pray without ceasing.

Remembering is hard at times. In my journey of remembering I cling to His promises that he will never leave us nor forsake us. Remembering his sacrifice is so important. I need to remember that He has something greater than what my mind can comprehend….

    great post.
