Living Green

March 31, 2010

So Liz and I have been trying to take a “green” approach to living. We don’t fall into the category of living a sacrificial lifestyle that is overly demanding on us. But… we do try and be resourceful and try not to waste resources. Liz read the book ” Serve God, Save the Planet” a while back. It had an immediate effect on our lives.

Here are some easy ways to cut down on your resource usage in everyday life:

* try and only use 1 napkin per meal ( sometimes I see people take huge handfuls of napkins for chips and salsa)

* Use reusable grocery bags, or don’t take a bag if you don’t need one

* ride a bike

* re-use plastic bags as much as possible

* use re-usable cups at Starbucks (or your local coffee shop)

* shop at the farmers market

* clean with lemons, vinegar, and baking soda

* take shorter showers

* turn lights off when leaving a room

* hang clothes up to dry ( we used to only do this, but we have not been so good lately)

These are a few things that we do. By no means is this a comprehensive list, but it is certainly a start. If we would all make some of these changes we would certainly make a difference.
