2011

January 3, 2011

Liz and I couldn’t be more excited for 2011. We have made a decision as a family to do some cool things and make some big sacrifices. We are not buying anything this year. Well… no new clothes, furniture, candles, etc… I blogged about it over on our new blog! That blog will be our outlet to chronicle our journey this year.

This blog will remain my personal blog for me to rant and rave ( the little that I do ).

This year should be a sweet year for us. Aside from our family living that out, I am looking forward to really digging in this year and learning a ton. There has been something stirring in me lately that is stoked to get into the Word, read more books, and learn a ton. This is good for me… I love to read, but I have not set time up for that to happen.

I guess if I had a New Years’s resolution it would be to read more books this year. I will write another blog about last year, and include the books I did read. Here is a list of books that I am going to tackle and finish this year:

1. Generous Justice – Timothy Keller

2. Colossians REMIXED – I started this book, but never finished it.

3. Forbidden God – Francis Chan

4. Radical – Platt

5. Divine Conspiracy – Dallas Willard – I also started this book, but never got through it

Any other must reads this year? Let me know…

I want to spend a ton of time with my wife and son this year. I want to have coffee with friends. I want to laugh a ton. I want to deepen my friendships. I want to share a ton of meals with friends this year. I want to ride Joel’s bike a bunch this year. MOST IMPORTANTLY: I want to love Jesus deeply. I want make hard choices for my life based on what it looks like to follow Jesus. ( I am not saying this because I have too because I am a pastor )

This should be a good year…

Don’t forget to read some fun fiction books as well. 🙂 It’s nice to read those you can learn from, but sometimes its very nice to just get lost in someone else’s imagination!

My recommendation would be Children of Divorce (by Andrew Root)

You should finish The Divine Conspiracy. 🙂 I’d also recommend anything else Tim Keller has ever written.

And I don’t have a bike. Otherwise, I’d totally let you ride it.
